THERE'S NO CLIMATE JUSTICE WITHOUT RACIAL AND GENDER JUSTICE.
OUR
MISSION.
“We can't save the planet without uplifting the voices of its people, especially those most often unheard.”
Leah Thomas, Activist & Author
We Are The Resistance is a women-led, ecofeminist organisation dedicated to amplifying the voices and leadership of women and gender-diverse environmental defenders on the front lines of the climate crisis and environmental injustice. We work to dismantle colonial and patriarchal power structures within environmental movements and policies in Europe, centering the expertise and lived experiences of those most impacted.

We aim to influence climate justice policy and public attitudes in Spain, while building cross-border solidarity. Through campaigning, audiovisual storytelling, and our annual flagship event the "Women and Green Colonialism Conference", we work to deepen awareness of the urgent need for Spain’s climate justice efforts to centre the lived realities of those beyond its borders.
Additionally, we are committed to working alongside women-led environmental justice organisations (in Spain and beyond) to co-create audiovisual content—such as campaign videos and visual documentation—that reflects their work, experiences, and priorities, and supports their efforts in advocacy, community engagement, and fundraising.
“You can't have climate justice without racial justice. It isn't justice if it doesn't include everyone”
Vanessa Nakate, Activist & Author
Our work is rooted in a commitment to dismantling the systems that exclude and oppress women on the front lines of the climate crisis and environmental injustice, and to advocating for policies that honour their right not only to survive, but to thrive in the just and equitable world we are collectively working to build.

OUR
VISION.
We envision a world where women, girls, and gender-diverse people are not just included but actively leading environmental decision-making. A world where policies are not only inclusive but intentionally designed to be racially and gender-responsive.
OUR
VALUES.

To apply an intersectional Lense to all that we do.

To Dismantle & Decolonize
Grounded in Kimberlé Crenshaw’s framework of intersectionality, we recognize that systems of oppression—racism, patriarchy, capitalism, ableism, classism, and colonialism—are deeply interconnected. Our work focuses on understanding and addressing the overlapping forms of discrimination that impact women and gender-diverse people from the Global Majority who are on the front lines of the climate crisis. We are committed to centring their leadership, knowledge, and lived experiences in all aspects of environmental justice.
For too long, audiovisual storytelling has reinforced harmful, colonial narratives about communities from the Global Majority. We actively challenge these narratives by embracing decolonial media practices that ensure those in front of the camera have full agency over their own stories. Beyond media, we strive to decolonize research, moving away from extractive academic approaches and instead honouring the lived expertise, traditions, and knowledge systems of the communities we work with.

To Cultivate Collective Care & Solidarity
We believe that resistance and resilience are nurtured through community. In a world shaped by extraction and exploitation, we prioritize care, reciprocity, and mutual support in all that we do. Our work is rooted in deep solidarity with environmental defenders, ensuring that our advocacy, storytelling, and actions are guided by their needs, voices, and visions for justice.

To Practice Radical Accountability
We are committed to continuously reflecting on our work, challenging our own biases, and ensuring that our actions align with our values. We embrace feedback from the communities we serve and recognize that real solidarity requires humility, transparency, and a willingness to evolve.
